New Years Eve Ritual for 2024

New Years Eve Ritual for 2018

New Years Eve Ritual

Another new years eve on my own. That’s the life you pick when you choose to live with a musician. I guess it bothers me a little bit, when I let myself think about it. However if I’m truthful, I probably dig it more, being alone on this night. I mean… yeah, I miss the kiss and that spark that flies in the excitement of that one moment when midnight hits and a new year begins and something magical goes down. I’m still not sure if that’s magic or expectation but whatever. Sigh. It’s thoughts like that, that lead you to creating your own majik. I’ve been sageing the house and doing a clearing/welcoming New Years Eve Ritual for that past 5 years and I can tell you, it’s always magical.

Take tonight for instance,

I said goodbye to the energy of 2017 and welcomed the abundance, lessons and love of 2018 into my home.  I work both the outside and inside areas of my home, aware of my surroundings, listening for the world to speak to me. The creak of the tall pines, the scurrying of an animal or the popping of the house as it cools, because the windows and doors are open. I find it reassuring to listen to these little nuances.  It will make you acutely aware of the bigger messages, you’ll see about that in a second.

It takes about an hour to do all this clearing and welcoming business. You can read in depth about what is and how to sage in my introductory to  SMUDGING BLOG.   I am a little more detailed oriented in my New Years Eve ritual.

  • First, I sage the house, inside and out, opening the doors and windows as I go.
  • Then I perform a bell ceremony, for abundance and blessings. I go through the whole house, ringing the my Tibetan bells. As I wrap up each room, I shut the doors and windows behind me and I move on to the next room.

I was in the upstairs bedroom when I heard it. The wind chimes in the backyard were joining in on the abundance and blessing ceremony!  It was like the fae were out in the backyard joining in. For the whole time not one peep until now. Laughing, I said out the window, “I hear you out there, rock on!!!” I moved to the other side of the house, worked the hall, worked the second bedroom and my studio, shutting the windows as I went. I went downstairs to the master bedroom, that is also on that side of the house and started the bell ceremony… and then, would you believe it, the front wind chimes joined in. Yeah…. that’s not coincidence. I didn’t even hear them when I was in the garage, and that’s right next to them. So, think what you want and I will think what I like.

Now that the not so needed energy has been ushered out,

the new vibes welcomed in and the blessings and abundance are ringing forth, I  turn to a short meditation and then, like some folks shoot fire works, I howl at the moon. Tonight, is the day before a full moon, the full howling moon, so it seemed even more appropriate to howl tonight. I’m not sure why but I was sure missing Willow. She used to howl with me. I’ll be honest, sometimes it just seems weird to be howling by yourself. I figure that’s all the more reason to do it!! Just a girl missing her pack, I owe Willow and Mya that. I am sure they would do it for me.

Well the neighbors fireworks are over,

I’m standing on the front porch with my meditation bells in hand. It’s cold but weirdly, I’m warm and it’s not effecting me.  It’s clear and crisp, like only the winter’s night air can bring. Peeking through some beautiful quilted clouds just overhead, is an almost full moon. All the neighbor’s houses have gone dark and I can only hope they are passed out drunk, because this is the type of night a good howl will carry!  And everyone knows… you gotta do them in threes. You can read more about the phases of the moons and what there surrounding energies mean in my blog; “For The Love of Luna”

I take a deep breath, filling my lungs

with a cool cleansing rush, I let out three really, really, really good howls. HOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWLLLLLL. I could feel them reverberating through the whole neighborhood. I was a little impressed with myself to be honest.  As I am finishing up the very last howl, I am not only amazed at the reverb I’m getting from the positioning of my house in the neighborhood but marveling at myself for having the guts to howl that loud for that long, three times no less, in a neighborhood that had gone dead quiet, while simultaneously thinking, yeah Willow would have really digged that!

I get to the end of my last howl, the silence falls like a dead, like a rock landing in a still pond. In that very instance, before I can even think a thought, some far off bottle rocket goes soaring through the air and explodes. A perfectly placed period on the year 2017 and my beloved spirit animal, Willow, saying;

“that was pretty bad ass BA!”

Peace, Love, Rocks & Moonbeams,

and a HAPPY NEW YEAR to everyone!
