February’s New Moon arrives this month on the 10th. Then we will be slipping into the full moon on the 24th. What to usher in and what to bid adieu! Enjoy the February moon energy my Luna Lovers!!!
- Farmer’s Almanac calls it the Snow Moon
- The Wiccans call it the Quickening moon or the Ice moon
- The Native Americans practicing the Medicine Wheel call this the Rest and Cleansing moon
Interesting note; It is possible to have a month without a full moon. This will only occur in the month of February. If that does happen, either January or March will have two moons.
Tools to put in your tool box, to aide in creating a sacred space for February’s Moon energy are:
- Colors associated with this moon; *light blue,* violet, silver
- Tree; rowan, laurel, cedar (our Celtic friends) Quaking Aspen (Medicine Wheel)
- Animal; Otter, Eagle, Unicorn
- Stones; *Amethyst, *jasper, angelite, ammolite, nebula stone
- Herbs; *balm of Gilead, *hyssop, *myrrh, *sage, honeysuckle, oak moss, jasmine, nutmeg
- Scents; *wisteria, *heliotrope
- Flower; *primrose
- Metal; Lead, aluminum, white gold
- Tibetan talisman stone for those born in this month; bloodstone

The February Full Moon and the New Moon is for letting go and coming together again. When thinking about setting your intention this full moon, be thinking of the things that stand in your way of fully experiencing love. Not just romantic love but any kind of love. Brotherly love, love for you sibling, parent or maybe a coworker, there are many kinds of love. Ask yourself, what is keeping you from giving and receiving more fully?
Last month was about introspective looking, Looking within ourselves at our own personal disturbances. This month’s energies deal with the energies that surround us and how we interact with them. The snow moon was named so for the fact that this is the time of year for the heaviest of snow fall. Families were more times than not, required to keep close quarters in the home. It is a time for hearth, family, enlightenment and togetherness.
Forgive & Let Go.
February’s Full Moon, is a capital time to forgive and let go so that you may come into love more fully on the following new moon. When thinking of forgiving, don’t forget to think of yourself. Some Native Americans refer to this moon as the full Hunger Moon. When snow’s were heavy food was scarce. This was a time to come together and love your brother, share and care for your neighbors. This is the full moon of purification to find growth through healing. That means taking responsibility for past transgressions and forgiving yourself.
The earth awakens to the future and the rising energy of spring and it prepares itself. We are no different. Take this time to work on the relationships around you so that you can begin to experience more fully, our spring awaits us too. It’s time to prepare for our future.
A possible mantra for February’s moon cycle might be;
“ I bring in balance to those energies that surround me, so that I may love more fully.”
I wrote this segment on the winter season and its effect on us in January. We are still in winter season, so I will include it again. Winter is the deepest yin energy of the year, emotional energy. The water element is most dominant during the winter time. This element is associated with the kidneys, bladder and sexual organs. Experiencing fear or craving large amounts of salt may be a sign that your kidney and bladder and thus your water element, may have an imbalance.
Nutrition surrounding February Moon Energy
If you wish to eat for the winter season and keep your yin energy in balance, stay away from fruits and salads and red heavy meats. Instead, eat complex carbs, root vegetables, fish, tofu and soybeans. Miso soup acts as a great alkalizer. Use of ginger and cayenne pepper to your dishes, will heat the body from within. You may also try teas made with comfrey root, ginger root, cinnamon bark, fennel seed, peppermint and chamomile to steer you away from the winter chill and keep you cozy warm inside and out.
In closing,
I hope that you will use this information to create a sacred space for yourself. Keep in mind, a ceremony, alter, ritual, meditation, prayer time or just a good ol celebration can be made anyway you wish. There is no wrong or right way, each will be as different and unique as each intention every one of you sets for yourselves. I firmly believe that setting an intention followed by any of these things, just adds a little extra OOMPH and really helps to cement that intention into place.
Remember to be kind to yourself this winter, that going inward is a natural thing. I think a lot of people sometimes confuse this inward time with depression. It’s totally ok to skip the party, crawl under a blanket, cozy up on a couch and just be. 😉 Now….. let’s do some balancing, shall we?
